WhereSouthern Sri Lanka
A small school in the south of the island had no computers at all. Students reaching secondary
education had never used one, in a country where the entrance to most skilled work now assumes you
have.
The lab was equipped and handed over to the school. It is the oldest entry in this record and the
one that makes the argument for permanence best: a gift made in 2018 was still being used by students
who had not started school when it was installed.
One-off giving does that occasionally and by luck. An endowment does it by design.
